Jody’s Picks

Over the last few weeks I have read some great books, some wonderful books and even a book I couldn’t finish; although lots of my colleagues loved it.

My MUST READ picks are

the-girl-in-times-square

The girl in Times SquarePaullina Simons

This is the first book I have read by Paullina Simons and I really enjoyed it. An overall enjoyable book.

mortal-heart

Mortal HeartRobin LaFevers

The 3rd book in a Young Adult series and I must say it was just as good as the first two in the series. I will definitely be reading any new books by this author. The two other books in the His Fair Assassin series are: 1 – Grave Mercy 2 – Dark Triumph

missing-you

Missing YouKylie Kaden

I discovered Kylie Kaden last year when I read Kylie’s first book ‘Losing Kate’ which I loved. When I saw that Kylie had a new book out I knew I had to read it as soon as possible. I finished ‘Losing Kate’ in one day and I promised myself I would take my time with ‘Missing You’ but I didn’t I just couldn’t  put it down. It was so easy to read and the characters were so easy to get involved with. Even a day later I find myself still thinking about the book.

Missing You is unputdownable!

My ENJOYABLE READS are

wild-wood

Wild Wood Posie Graeme-Evans

I did enjoy this book although I did find my self skimming through the modern day chapters and relishing the chapters set in the past. Overall a good book to get lost in for a while.

the-strays

The strays (Winner of the Stella Prize 2015) – Emily Bitto

I didn’t expect to enjoy this book so much, but I did. This is not the sort of book I normally read but thought I should give it a go and see why it one the Stella Prize. Now I will be reading some of the other titles on the short list just to see how they compare.

The book I COULDN’T FINISH was

the-girl-on-the-trainThe Girl on the trainPaula Hawkins

Yes I can probably guess what everyone is thinking, what do you mean you couldn’t finish ‘The girl on the train’!

I know there has been so much hype about this book and everyone thinks it is so good, but I couldn’t read it.  Although a lot of my colleagues finished it and loved it.

From the first page I didn’t like the character Rachel and the next one wasn’t any better and maybe I wasn’t supposed to like them but I didn’t want to keep reading about them and hating them. I stopped reading a few chapters in and I’m not sorry. In the past I would have continued reading just to finish and give the book a fair chance but not now I feel it’s important for me to enjoy what I’m reading.

Feel free to make up your own mind.
