The book read by the 1st Wednesday Book Group for January 2011 was the autobiographical book Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.
Here are some of their thoughts regarding both the author and the book –
- The author has very firm views on Islam and multiculturalism and writes from personal experiences;
- The book is well written and flows well;
- It is a very enjoyable and interesting read;
- Infidel gives a good insight into the Islamic mindset and rituals.
The account of her journey as she moved towards Western thinking is very moving and honest. The authors inner turmoil regarding Islam and her family’s beliefs provided compelling reading. The general consensus by all members of the book club was that they found the book very readable and compelling although the themes were quite disturbing.
