Parramatta City Library would like to introduce National Year of Reading ambassadors to the book lovers.

In this post we’d like you to meet all our library ambassadors for NYR 2012.

Being a Parramatta Reading Ambassador is a chance for me to share my love of reading.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Gerard O’Dwyer of Guilford is an actor and a spokesperson for Beyond the Square, Parramatta Riverside Theatre’s dedicated performing arts program for people with a disability. Gerard’s credits include the Tropfest short file, Be my brother, which won him the best actor award. This year Gerard, who has Down Syndrome, won a best male actor award for his role in the short play, Beautiful, performed at the Newtown Theatre and Nada’s Parade Theatre. You may remember Gerard in the government advertisement, CareCareers, which won a Bronze Award for Best Television Commercial.

 

 

 

Ursula Dubosarsky is widely regarded as one of the most talented and original writers in Australia today. She is the author of many outstanding books, both for young adults and for children, and has won several national literacy awards, such as New South Wales Premier’s Literary Award, Victorian Premier’s Literary Award, Queensland Premier’s Literary Award, KOALA Children’s Choice Picture Book Award Winner and many more awards.

 

 

 

Sarah Davis is an illustrator. She’s been illustrateing children’s books since 2008 and has won the children’s Book Council of Australia’s 2009 Crichton Award for the most promising new illustrator and was shortlisted for the 2010 Book of the Year Awards. Sarah’s books include Fearless by Colin Thompson, Marmaduke Duck and the Marmalade jam.

 

 

 

Tracey Lee is an educator, the principal of Yates Public School, Dundas.

As an educator, reading is the keystone to learning but more importantly it is an essential skill for life.

 

 

 

 

 

Gai Marheine (left side of the photo with Aunt Sandra), is Darug person from the Burramatta Clan. 

 To be a National Year of Reading Ambassador for Parramatta Library  is to be more pro active in promoting reading to people of all ages.

These ambassadors will join the National Year of Launch day on 14th February at Parramatta City Library. The launch is open for public. Booking is required on 9806 5159.
