The Second Tuesday reading group met in the library recently to discuss Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. All the members fround this book very readable, well written and enjoyable.Some further comments were : “characters well defined and realistic”, “Lots of tragedy, romantic entaglements, rejections and depression thrown at them along the way but with a good amount of humour among the death”, ” a quiet, introspective book with no particular plot apart from the central theme of reminiscence of the past”, “all the characters seem very intense”, “two very different women, Nakao quiet, fragile & Midori, bright and outgoing”.
The book was originally published in Japan in 1987 and was very popular. It has been translated into English twice and made into a film
