Best selling author Bryce Courtenay, 79, has been diagnosed with terminal gastric cancer and expects to have only some months left to live.
His next forthcoming book Jack of Diamonds will be his last and is due out this November.
South African born naturalised Australian, Courtenay published his first book The Power of One in 1989 and has since published 21 books which include:
