The Tuesday Book Group read Melanie La’Brooy’s novel “Bittersweet” in September 2011. Read on to see what they said.
A light novel, even though it had serious undertones it has the sense of being a script for a soap opera.
The book group members liked the structure of the novel, outlining the countdown to a wedding. Some felt the abandonment of the family by the father was a laboured point, but it was still easy to read. The book gave an interesting insight into the world of celebrity culture. Each chapter starts with a “snippet” of a magazine and “scoop headline” which is a fun way of starting a new section.
It is an easy book to read with a “feel good” happy ending along with character insights throughout the story.
